It is common that a disadvantage for someone is an advantage for other. I know it may sounds harsh especially when it is related to disaster, but think about it; when a natural disaster hit one area, for example, all efforts for rescue and recovery are advantages for others, like transportation companies, foods companies, are “benefited” from that kind of situation.

This Covid-19 pandemic is no exemption, where almost every companies and individuals are badly impacted, still there are winners of this bad situation. The winners of this Covid-19 pandemic are pharmaceutical industries – especially vitamins and healthcare products producers – and other related companies, of course. Telecommunication and online meeting platform providers are other winners of this pandemic. But even those winners, I believe, are facing their own battle fields too.

Operationally, for manufacturing companies, supply chain management is one of the biggest challenges while for other industries could be distribution, customer services and how to collaborate all the human resources of the companies while working remotely from home.

Financially, with significant reduction in business turnover, many companies are struggling in managing its cashflow and trying to cut any expenses, whenever possible. In an extreme financial condition, some companies have no choice but terminated employees, which consequently creating another problem in operation.

Without trying to simplify the matters nor underestimating the efforts have been done by corporate executives, it is important to start realigning the operations to the “new business normal” and transform the whole operations of the company. Of course, acceleration of transition to digitalization of the operations will be a key to the success of the company in sustaining the going concern of the company over this Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation of technology, however, must be done with longterm strategical roadmap in mind, instead of an ad-hoc solution.
In regards to the above mentioned digital transformation, agility and resilience are becoming a very famous words during this pandemic. I heard these two words mentioned at almost every webinars and forums I enrolled and articles I read, often in oversimplification manner. Because there are a lot of elements, factors and parameters in digital transformation than just a flexibility/agility. We need to realize and appreciate the anomalies, which uniquely from one organization to another, faced by many organizations right now that need to be put into perspectives.

Therefore, the assistance of professional corporate advisor and business consultant are very critical in correctly define the battle fields of your company in order to intelligently chose the right weapon(s) – be it a digital transformations or business restructuring – that is useful in longterm and effectively leverage your business. Your day to day corporate responsibilities and operations need a great focus on this kind of circumstances. You need someone independent from those hectic day to day routines to provide you with strategical solutions before things are falling apart and going south, that may eventually cost you more.
